Finale Ligure is the perfect place not only for hikers but for every outdoor enthusiast. The territory is actually worlwide famous for its white falesias , climbers paradise, and its bike itineraries that make riders crazy. In Finale starts the “sentiero del Pellegrino” maybe one of the italian most spectacular coastal trail and many other itineraries that lead you over the impressive falesias, through paleolitic caves or ancient roman bridge sas well.

During your half or simple day trek you’ll  have the chance to walk over an impressive white falesia, observing the blue waves through a big cave overhanging the sea and the villages, strolling through olive trees, sensing the flavor of Mediterranean aromatic plants on the edge of white rock cliffs, always overlooking the sea and the landscape all around you.

Adding to that the old part of the city, the village of Finalborgo is an amazing, well preserved miedieval village that worths a visit.

tOUR OF vARIGOTTI

15,00 arriving in Varigotti, one of the nicest villages of the coast, founded by Arab predons. The place is famous for its white falesia, the beautiful san Lorenzo church of XII century perching on the sea and the watchtower of XVI century  built on a rock above the port

16,00 –  18,00 short excursion to the arab village and the watchtower  (in alternative 16.00 – 18,00 short excursion to the carsic plateau just above Varigotti and its carsic caves)

circular hike to Monte Carmo 800 m+

8,00 moving by car  to Giogo di Toirano

9,00 circular hike to Monte Carmo, 800 m +  . it is a beautiful medium hiking to one of the most panoramic mountain of the region. Monte Carmo is the highest point of sea mountains in western Riviera (1400 m) , famous for its landscapes towards the Mediterranean sea and its fantastic caves such as Grotte di Toirano or Grotte di Borgio.

Lunch in cozy Rifugio pian delle Bosse (or picnic lunch, out of season) after descending the hyperpanoramic south flank of Monte Carmo. Icing on the cake the visit to the mountain church of San Pietro nei Monti, a Benedectine amazing small church who takes its origin around X century, built on the top of a mountain. Coming back to Giogo di Toirano not before 15,00.

Circular walk to Monte Carmo - 1600m +

7,30 moving by car to Boissano

8,00 circular walk to Monte Carmo: this is a most demanding 1600 m + overall starting from a village not far from the sea. visit to the mountain church of San pietro nei Monti and Lunch in Rifugio Pian delle Bosse or picnic lunch. Coming back to Boissano not before 17,00

18,00 gourmet degustation or visit to a local producer

8,00 leaving to sentiero del Pellegrino. 400 m + .

This is one of the most spectacular coastal paths of Italy even if relatively not so famous as other places.

The trail run over a white falesia overhanging the sea and connects the two historical villages of Varigotti and Noli.

The route offers many view points and highlights like the grotta dei Falsari, a sort of a big cave perching on the sea.

Suggestive short hike along small Ponci valley. Along the path we’ll observe the five roman bridges of Via Julia Augusta, dated I century  D.C. and the ancient quarries  where the Romans extracted the stones for paving their roads.

16,30 short visit to the medieval and renaissance hamlet of Finalborgo, named in 2004 among “the beautiful hamlets of Italy” and great sweet ending in Gelateria Pastorino, producing one of the best Italian ice cream from 1942

 Just in case you can spend one more day in Finale, this area has so much interesting archeological and suggestive corners worth to be visited, that you cold visit in one more day hike:

In the morning, circular road to Monte Cucco Canyon, a spectacular track through and up one of the most famous climbing falesia of Finale Ligure (EE with passages EEA / fixed rope) and visit to two important archeological sites, Ciappo delle Conche e Ciappo dei Ceci, two big rock slabs rich in prehistorical engravings.

In the afternoon, circular road to the most spectacular caves of Finale Ligure, like Grotta dell’Edera open on the top, with incredible views in and out of the caves (EE – exposed)
